CASA examinations and pilot eye tests
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has formed a partnership with Optometry Australia to provide vision and eye tests for pilots. CASA has certified optometrists Dr Tim Duffy and Dr Sebastian Egan to conduct this examination for critical aviation employees. The medical section of CASA oversees medical standards for all types of pilots, air traffic controllers and flight engineers. Individuals in these professions must have a valid medical certificate while performing their duties, which can be achieved through initial and periodic medical examinations with a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME) and vision examinations performed by a CASA certified optometrist. We work collaboratively with DAME doctors to ensure that the pilot's eyesight is optimised and satisfies the requirements for different medical classes. The findings of the examination are communicated through a secure online system and, if there are no problems, CASA certification is awarded automatically.
